Emotional Baggage

Emotional baggage…… ***sigh***

Emotional baggage in my opinion and most cases, is just a pretty word for "unforgiveness."

Why do we walk around with a bag of emotions we’re afraid to confront, face, deal with, and release?

Not only do we hide them, but we've given them a home in our hearts.

When you think about certain people and situations that have caused a detrimental effect on you (personally) and/or your life, what emotions do you feel?

Today I want to encourage you to "Expose what's in the bag." When you reach in your bag, what do you pull out?

No this doesn't mean tell the world every one of your dark secrets, but you must face and deal with these emotions that are secretly tearing you apart, numbing you, and holding up your life.

You must begin by:

1. Taking the blame off God

2. Forgiving yourself and

3. Forgiving everyone who is attached to each of these emotions.

Emotions are a sign that we are human. We should be able to “feel.”

I’m reminded of the scripture in the Bible that tells how Jesus was “MOVED WITH COMPASSION.” This means that He was able to feel and sense.

After the news of John the Baptist being beheaded, I’m sure that made Jesus feel some type of way. I imagine He wanted time alone to grieve and take in what happened. But when He went away by ship - to a desert place - the multitude followed Him and He didn’t turn them away. (Matthew 14).

Imagine if Jesus allowed what He was feeling to interfere with the needs of the people?

How many times have we been in our feelings and went away to our room, the car, taken a drive up the street??? Even turn our phone off or set them to “do not disturb?”

I’m guilty of this! 😩

But what if someone came to you in need in that moment?

Would you turn them away? Would you ignore them? Are you able to tell them kindly and respectfully that you just need time alone without being nasty and disrespectful?

Listennnnnn!!!!!!!

If you don’t remember anything else from this blog post, remember this:

We control our emotions, our emotions don’t control us!!!! 🎯

What emotions are you working on?

What emotions do you need help with?
